Dori and Aaron's
house was on the Parrot Cove neighborhood

The front bedroom has lots of light and newly painted pale orange walls. A stained glass fish hangs in the front window. A highwayman painting hangs above the wavy wood front dresser. The highwaymen are a group of black painters who painted old Florida scenery in the 1950s and were rediscovered in the '90s. Here's a link to a book about them. The cedar chest belonged to Dori's grandmother.

Sunlight streams into the first floor bath. The shower area has fancy tile work and the very cool vanity is made from an old marble topped chest. For an old house, this is a large bath.
|
The back bedroom has more whimsical art with two originals for cards, a poster of the Islander Ferry to Martha's Vineyard and a festive boat house. This is a new sage green on the walls.

The kitchen, with its black granite counter tops, cherry cupboards, and large diagonally laid tile flooring, invites you to do a lot of cooking. It looks out toward the courtyard in the back.

Everyone gets to sit down finally after all the hard work getting ready and then all the standing and mingling during the tour. Sam spent the afternoon at a neighbor's house where he got to play with a couple of little kids. So even he is dog tired at the end of the day. Although we served food on the tour, Dori sent out for pizza because we hadn't had a chance to eat very much.
