Need a speaker for a writers' festival? Writers need reliable, up-to-date, information about websites.

Every writer today needs an effective website as part of a complete marketing plan.

Ginny spoke at the Harriette Austin Writers Conference again.  It was held July 18 & 19, 2008 in Athens, Georgia.  (www.harrietteautsin.org)  This year her sessions were:

Websites for Unpublished Writers: Present yourself as a credible writer with a writer's website. Be your own cheerleader. Everyone is on the Internet. Isn't it time for you to create a professional website? It's not expensive and it's not too difficult, even for the technically challenged.

Maximize Marketing with a Writer's Website: Set up your website to monitor its effectiveness. Learn to track landing pages, enhance search engine results, find new promoters, support media coverage, and more. Internet marketing is a process, not an event.

Take charge of your online presence and create an effective website this year.  Anyone can do it.

Great ideas for writers' websites

Here's an idea: Make your website really work for you.  In July 2007 and 2008 at the Harriette Austin Writers' conference in Athens, Georgia, quite a few writers told Ginny that since they were not published yet, that they did not need a website.  They are missing a fabulous opportunity.

Since there are so many other people trying to gain the attention of agents and/or publishers, you will stand out if you have a website with samples of your work and an interesting bio including reasons why you write.  If your writing (fiction or non-fiction) involves a topic or special issue of some kind like bullying, nutrition, foster care, or sustainable gardening, then your website can provide background, resources, and more information on the topic.  This way you don't have to spend your 30-second elevator speech for editors, agents, and publishers covering the topic.  You can concentrate on selling yourself and your writing instead.

An effective website should be a sales vehicle for you and your writing.
