Cruise assignment: 14 days from Port Canaveral
to Nova Scotia and back
I joined an agency for cruise ship presenters and
got an assignment for this cruise. Marella is a British cruise
company owned by Tui, a German travel group. It was interesting
and different because 100% of the passengers were British and
the whole cruising experience was different in many ways. I gave
7 presentations, which were well-received. It was good to get
back into the presenting mode again since the last one was in
2020, pre-covid.
The five-story atrium in the center of the ship was impressive
with its windowed elevators.
The pink llama was on the second level near the "front desk."
In the evenings the atrium was well-lit with neon and more.
Marble stairs from to the first level and fake green grass lines
the way out to the "Live Room" where evening entertainers
play in a lounge there.
The white piano on the bottom atrium level.
The yellow piano was in the Live Room.
The black piano was in the main dining room. There was a two story
wall of windows on both sides of this space.
My presentations were in a large lounge. A dance floor separated
me from my audience. Dean recorded videos of my presentations,
which is useful for review.
There was bar at the back end of the lounge and in front that
there was a table where people could watch my presentations, but
most sat closer to the front of the room.
The room was called the "Squid and Anchor." We started
calling it the "Squanchor."
As usual, we ate in the cafeteria, not the dining room. The food
was different and very British. For Halloween, the staff was quite
creative.
The cafeteria had several bars of self-serve food.
The seating was informal and since this was on an upper deck near
the bow, the view was good.
Indeed, this is where we spent most of our time. No internet was
provided as part of our accomodations, but we were able to set
up hotspots on our phones when we were near US ports. I got a
lot of writing done on our living shorelines book, because when
I wasn't working, there were very few distractions. I was in the
mode of rewriting my coauthors' chapters, so I did not need to
refer to other websites.
A pool room on the top deck.
And an open pool as well. To the aft, is the top of the atrium
where there were specialty restaurants.
Midship and the main entry/ exit point.
Here is the itinerary for this cruise.
